Iterative Billing vs Ndovu Connect: Kenyan ISP Billing Compared (2026)

A factual comparison of Iterative Billing and Ndovu Connect for Kenyan ISPs and hotspot operators: published pricing at 100 to 2,500 subscribers, the 3 percent hotspot revenue share, MikroTik and RADIUS depth, FTTH readiness and AI operations.

Updated First published 5 min read

Ndovu Connect is a Kenyan ISP billing system built around the same stack most local operators run: MikroTik routers, PPPoE and hotspot subscribers, M-Pesa collections. It competes directly with Iterative Billing for the same customer. This comparison is factual: Ndovu Connect figures below are taken from its own published pricing calculator at ndovuconnect.co.ke in August 2026, reported rather than endorsed, and the arithmetic is shown so you can verify every number yourself.

The two platforms at a glance

Ndovu Connect prices per customer and per hotspot shilling: KSh 25 per PPPoE customer per month with a stated minimum of 30 customers, plus 3 percent of hotspot revenue with a KSh 500 monthly minimum. Its own calculator gives the worked examples: 100 PPPoE customers costs KSh 2,500 a month, and KSh 50,000 of monthly hotspot revenue costs KSh 1,500. Its site advertises PPPoE, hotspot and MikroTik automation with M-Pesa messaging, 99.99 percent uptime and 24/7 support.

Iterative Billing (from 1 October 2026) charges KSh 15 per active PPPoE or static-IP customer, never more than KSh 5,000 a month up to 500 customers, KSh 10,000 up to 1,000 and KSh 40,000 beyond, with a KSh 1,000 minimum, billed in US dollars for operators outside Kenya. Hotspot subscribers, routers and hotspot sites are unlimited, and hotspot is charged at 2 percent of collected revenue, never more than KSh 3,000 a month. Around the billing core sits built-in RADIUS with CoA, Huawei GPON OLT automation, TR-069 WiFi management, SNMP monitoring, agentic AI operations, a self-service hotspot advertising engine, full white-labelling, and apps for both operators and subscribers.

Pricing: the third Kenyan platform charging the same way

Ndovu Connect uses the per-customer-plus-hotspot-percentage model that Jasiyo and Internetily also use. Against Iterative Billing's capped rate, using Ndovu Connect's published August 2026 rates:

PPPoE customersNdovu Connect (published)Iterative Billing
20KSh 750KSh 1,000
40KSh 1,000KSh 1,000
100KSh 2,500KSh 1,500

1,000KSh 25,000KSh 10,000 (capped)
2,500KSh 62,500KSh 28,000

Monthly platform charge before any hotspot share, from each platform's published rates. One-time fees: none published by Ndovu Connect; KSh 1,000 new account fee at Iterative Billing.

Hotspot widens it further. Ndovu Connect takes 3 percent of hotspot revenue, so their published example of KSh 50,000 monthly hotspot income costs KSh 1,500 a month, and a busier site collecting KSh 200,000 would cost KSh 6,000 a month, rising with every good month. Iterative Billing takes 2 percent, KSh 1,000 on that KSh 50,000 example, and never more than KSh 3,000 a month however much the site earns up to KSh 600,000. If hotspot is your main business, model it with the hotspot profit calculator and add 3 percent to see the difference compound.

What Ndovu Connect advertises, reported straight

These are Ndovu Connect's own published claims: PPPoE, hotspot and static-IP billing on MikroTik, automated customer onboarding, automated disconnects, M-Pesa messaging, an interactive pricing calculator, 99.99 percent uptime and 24/7 support, plus named customer testimonials on its home page. Its per-customer minimum of 30 customers means a very small operator starts at a low absolute figure, which is a genuine consideration for someone billing a handful of subscribers. Set beside that: Iterative Billing's KSh 15 rate is KSh 10 below Ndovu Connect's per customer and stops at KSh 5,000 a month up to 500 customers, with the full network, AI and advertising stack on the platform, so above the minimum it is both cheaper and materially broader at every size.

Where Iterative Billing pulls ahead

  • •The network layer is part of the product. Built-in RADIUS with Change of Authorization for instant suspend and restore on live sessions, Huawei GPON OLT automation for the move to FTTH, TR-069 management of customer WiFi routers, and SNMP monitoring, all included rather than assembled from separate tools.
  • •Agentic AI operations. Autonomous monitoring and troubleshooting down to the customer router and MikroTik network level, remote reboots and secure WiFi credential resets. Operators on the platform report recovering 8 to 9 of every 10 customers who would previously have churned after unresolved faults.
  • •Nine payment gateways, not one rail. M-Pesa Paybill, Till and STK Push through Daraja, plus Co-op Bank, KopoKopo, SasaPay (M-Pesa, Airtel Money and T-Kash), Pesapal, Flutterwave, Paystack, MTN MoMo and WaafiPay, ready the day you cross a border.
  • •Hotspot advertising income. A self-service engine where local businesses buy and pay for ad slots on your captive portals, a second income stream rather than a second fee.
  • •Apps on both sides. The operator app for iPhone and Android runs the whole ISP; subscribers get the Internet Billing self-care app on Google Play.
  • •Finance depth. Double-entry ledgers, wallets and statements, and KRA eTIMS-aligned invoicing built in.
  • •Setup speed. Adding a MikroTik is fully automated and takes at most 8 minutes from adding the router to fully up and running.

Which should you choose?

Ndovu Connect's published model targets operators who want per-customer billing and are comfortable sharing a percentage of hotspot revenue. That model is cheapest only below about 40 customers (its 30-customer minimum is KSh 750 a month against Iterative's KSh 1,000), and it scales against you: every customer you add and every extra shilling your hotspot earns raises the bill.

From 40 subscribers upward the published numbers favour Iterative Billing at every point, and the gap is widest exactly where an ISP wants it narrow, at scale and on a busy hotspot. Add the network layer, AI operations, advertising engine and both apps, and the comparison stops being about price alone.

Run both against your own MikroTik and your own M-Pesa flow before deciding.
