Iterative Billing vs Jasiyo: Kenyan ISP Billing Compared (2026)

A factual comparison of Iterative Billing and Jasiyo for Kenyan ISPs and hotspot operators: pricing at 100 to 2,500 subscribers, M-Pesa flows, MikroTik and RADIUS depth, hotspot revenue share vs capped fees, and which to pick.

Updated First published 5 min read

Jasiyo and Iterative Billing are both Kenyan-built ISP billing platforms, both speak M-Pesa and MikroTik natively, and both will run a small WISP competently. They differ sharply in pricing model and in how far the platform goes beyond billing. This comparison is factual: prices and features below are as published on each company's website in August 2026, competitor claims are reported as their claims rather than endorsed, and the arithmetic is shown so you can check every number yourself.

The two platforms at a glance

Jasiyo charges per customer: KSh 25 per PPPoE customer per month plus 3 percent of hotspot revenue, with a single KSh 1,000 monthly minimum across your account and a KSh 250 one-time onboarding fee, and a 7-day free trial. Its pitch is simplicity, most ISPs are live within the hour, setup is a guided MikroTik connection, and it can collect via STK Push to your own paybill or till with or without your own Daraja API access.

Iterative Billing (from 1 October 2026) charges KSh 15 per active PPPoE customer, never more than KSh 5,000 a month up to 500 customers and KSh 10,000 up to 1,000, plus 2 percent of collected hotspot revenue, never more than KSh 3,000 a month, with a KSh 1,000 minimum and unlimited routers and hotspot sites. It bundles the billing engine with network management: built-in RADIUS with CoA, Huawei GPON OLT automation for FTTH, TR-069 WiFi management, SNMP monitoring, an agentic AI layer that troubleshoots and fixes network issues autonomously, a self-service hotspot advertising engine, and operator plus subscriber mobile apps. The trial is 3 days.

Pricing: the math at real subscriber counts

Uncapped and capped per-customer pricing part ways fast. Using each platform's published rates (Jasiyo: KSh 25 per PPPoE customer monthly, minimum KSh 1,000; Iterative from 1 October 2026: KSh 15 per active customer, capped at KSh 5,000 up to 500 customers and KSh 10,000 up to 1,000):

  • •100 customers. Jasiyo KSh 2,500 per month; Iterative KSh 1,500 per month.
  • •250 customers. Jasiyo KSh 6,250; Iterative KSh 3,750.
  • •500 customers. Jasiyo KSh 12,500; Iterative KSh 5,000 (capped).
  • •1,000 customers. Jasiyo KSh 25,000; Iterative KSh 10,000 (capped).
  • •2,500 customers. Jasiyo KSh 62,500; Iterative KSh 25,000 (capped).

Hotspot widens the gap: Jasiyo takes 3 percent of hotspot revenue, so a site collecting KSh 100,000 a month adds KSh 3,000 monthly on top; Iterative takes 2 percent, KSh 2,000, and never more than KSh 3,000 however busy the site gets, on unlimited sites. If hotspot is your main business, run your own numbers in the hotspot profit calculator and add 3 percent to see the difference compound.

What Jasiyo advertises, reported straight

A comparison published by one vendor should report the other accurately, so these are Jasiyo's own published claims from jasiyo.com in August 2026, reported rather than endorsed: a guided setup it says has most ISPs live within the hour, CSV customer import, STK collections into your own bank paybill without holding Daraja API credentials, and pay-as-you-earn pricing where a 20-customer startup pays only the KSh 1,000 minimum. Worth knowing before that sways you: Iterative Billing's minimum is the same KSh 1,000, supports platform-managed M-Pesa credentials so new operators can start collecting before holding their own Daraja access, and includes RADIUS, hotspot tooling and both mobile apps from the first day. On setup speed, the comparison is direct: adding a MikroTik to Iterative Billing is fully automated and takes at most 8 minutes from adding the router to fully up and running, against the within-the-hour setup Jasiyo advertises.

Where Iterative Billing pulls ahead

  • •Network management, not just billing. Built-in RADIUS with Change of Authorization acts on live sessions, unpaid subscribers drop instantly, paid ones restore instantly. Huawei GPON OLT automation (ONU auto-authorization, WAN provisioning, watchdogs) means the platform grows with you into FTTH, and TR-069 lets you manage customer WiFi routers remotely, including WiFi credential changes.
  • •Agentic AI operations. The platform monitors connections, troubleshoots at customer-router and MikroTik network level, reboots routers remotely and resolves faults autonomously. Operators on the platform report recovering 8 to 9 of every 10 customers who would previously have churned after unresolved issues.
  • •More ways to get paid. Beyond M-Pesa Paybill, Till and STK Push: Co-op Bank, KopoKopo, SasaPay (covering Airtel Money and T-Kash), Pesapal, Flutterwave, Paystack, MTN MoMo and WaafiPay, one platform collecting in Kenya and across East Africa and beyond.
  • •A second income stream. The self-service advertising engine sells ad slots on your hotspot portals to local businesses, operators in busy locations report it can double what a site earns.
  • •Apps on both sides. Operators run everything from the Iterative Billing app on iPhone and Android; subscribers (PPPoE, hotspot and static IP) get the Internet Billing self-care app on Google Play.
  • •Full white-labelling. ISPs can run the operation from their own domain, under their own brand.
  • •Accounting depth. Double-entry ledgers, wallet statements and KRA eTIMS-aligned invoicing, the finance layer an ISP needs at tax time, built in.

Which should you choose?

Jasiyo's published pitch targets the operator with a few dozen customers who wants billing alone, and at that size its KSh 1,000 minimum simply matches ours. From there the published numbers run one way: at every price point from 100 subscribers up, Iterative Billing costs less and includes the network layer, AI operations, advertising engine and apps that have no equivalent on the other side of this comparison.

Choose Iterative Billing if you are past roughly 100 subscribers or intend to be, run hotspot revenue you would rather not share 3 percent of, want the network layer (RADIUS, OLT, TR-069, AI troubleshooting) managed by the same platform, or plan to grow into FTTH. At 500 subscribers the published prices are KSh 12,500 against KSh 3,500 a month, and the gap only widens.

Both platforms offer trials, Jasiyo 7 days per its site, Iterative 3 days for approved networks (apply at https://billing.iterativebilling.com/register), and the honest advice is to run both against your own MikroTik and your own M-Pesa flow before you commit. Full plan details are on the pricing page; prices quoted for Jasiyo are from jasiyo.com as of August 2026 and may change.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheaper for a Kenyan ISP, Iterative Billing or Jasiyo?
At published August 2026 rates, Jasiyo charges KSh 25 per PPPoE customer monthly (minimum KSh 1,000) plus 3 percent of hotspot revenue, while Iterative Billing charges KSh 15 per active customer, capped at KSh 5,000 up to 500 customers and KSh 10,000 up to 1,000, and 2 percent of hotspot revenue capped at KSh 3,000. At 100 customers: Jasiyo KSh 2,500 vs Iterative KSh 1,500. At 500: KSh 12,500 vs KSh 5,000. At 1,000: KSh 25,000 vs KSh 10,000. The gap grows with hotspot revenue, where Jasiyo's 3 percent share applies and Iterative takes nothing.
Is Jasiyo ever the better choice over Iterative Billing?
Jasiyo's own site advertises a guided one-hour setup, STK collections without your own Daraja credentials, and a KSh 1,000 monthly minimum aimed at the smallest startups. Iterative Billing's minimum is the same KSh 1,000, also supports platform-managed M-Pesa credentials for operators without Daraja access, and includes RADIUS, hotspot tooling and both mobile apps from day one, so the published numbers favour Iterative Billing at every subscriber count, and the gap widens once Jasiyo's 3 percent hotspot revenue share applies.
Do both platforms support MikroTik and M-Pesa?
Yes, both are Kenyan-built around MikroTik and M-Pesa. The differences are in depth: Iterative Billing adds built-in RADIUS with CoA on RouterOS v6 and v7, Huawei GPON OLT automation, TR-069 WiFi management, SNMP monitoring and agentic AI troubleshooting, alongside additional payment rails including Co-op Bank, KopoKopo, SasaPay, Pesapal, Flutterwave, Paystack, MTN MoMo and WaafiPay.
