Sensible Hotspot is a Tanzanian WiFi billing service for hotspot operators, and Tanzanian operators search for it by name more than for any other hotspot platform we track. This comparison reports Sensible Hotspot's own published claims from sensiblehotspot.cloud as read on 31 October 2026, without endorsing them, and sets Iterative Billing's published prices beside them so you can check the arithmetic yourself.
Short answer: choose by the hardware you run and the number of sites. Sensible Hotspot's published stack is Ruijie Cloud with a WiFiDog captive portal, priced in shillings: a one-time installation of TZS 100,000 or TZS 150,000, a monthly subscription, and a fee for every site. Iterative Billing runs on MikroTik with built-in RADIUS, has no installation fee, and charges 2 percent of the hotspot revenue it collects, never more than $27 a month up to $5,400 collected however many sites you run, with a $9 monthly minimum and a one-time $9 account fee. It also bills PPPoE home and business customers on the same account. We build Iterative Billing, so check every claim here against both platforms.
The two platforms at a glance
Sensible Hotspot says it is built for Tanzanian hotspot operators: cafés, hotels, events and multi-branch businesses. Its site lists Ruijie Cloud sync that imports routers, access points and SSIDs; a WiFiDog captive portal that authorises a device once payment confirms; mobile money by USSD push for Mixx by Yas, M-Pesa, HaloPesa and Airtel Money, run through Sensible Digital Services; revenue and session dashboards; a main site with sub sites; and role-based access for staff.
Iterative Billing is a cloud ISP and hotspot billing platform built on MikroTik RouterOS v6 and v7 with built-in RADIUS and CoA. In Tanzania it collects M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas, Airtel Money and HaloPesa through AzamPay and ClickPesa, with Pesapal and Flutterwave for cards, and you connect your own AzamPay or ClickPesa merchant account, so collections settle to you. Tanzanian accounts open in Kiswahili. The same account bills hotspot sessions and vouchers, PPPoE and static-IP subscribers, and adds Huawei GPON OLT automation, TR-069 router management, SNMP monitoring and AI troubleshooting.
Published pricing, side by side
| Item | Sensible Hotspot (published) | Iterative Billing |
|---|---|---|
| One-time setup | TZS 150,000 if Sensible configures your router, TZS 100,000 if you do | $9 account fee; adding a MikroTik is automated and takes at most 8 minutes |
| Monthly subscription | TZS 10,000 (full setup) or TZS 5,000 (self setup) | None |
| Per-site fee | TZS 13,000 for the main site, TZS 7,000 for each sub site, due on the 25th | None: sites and routers are never metered |
| Revenue share | None published | 2 percent of collected hotspot revenue, capped at $27 a month up to $5,400 collected, $45 above |
| Monthly minimum | Not published | $9 |
| Trial | First month free | 3-day trial for approved networks |
Sensible Hotspot's page lists the subscription and the per-site platform fee separately and does not spell out how they combine, so ask for a written quote for your number of sites. Mobile money transaction charges are not shown in its pricing section; on Iterative Billing they are whatever your own AzamPay or ClickPesa agreement says.
What the arithmetic says
For one small café, Sensible Hotspot's flat shilling fees are the lower monthly sticker, and its installation fee buys hands-on router setup. The picture changes with scale. Ten sites on its published per-site fee come to TZS 13,000 plus nine sub sites at TZS 7,000, which is TZS 76,000 a month before any subscription, and every new site adds TZS 7,000. On Iterative Billing the hotspot charge depends only on what you collect across all sites: 2 percent, stopping at $27 a month until collections pass $5,400. A network collecting $2,000 a month pays $27 whether that money comes from one site or forty. Model your own numbers with the hotspot profit calculator.
Hardware decides most of this
Sensible Hotspot's published integration is Ruijie Cloud with a WiFiDog portal. Iterative Billing does not manage Ruijie Cloud; it controls access on a MikroTik gateway through RADIUS, which is what most Tanzanian WISPs and hotspot resellers already run, and any access points, Ruijie included, can sit behind that gateway in bridge mode. If every site is Ruijie hardware managed in Ruijie Cloud and you want someone else to set it up, Sensible Hotspot's own positioning matches you. If you run MikroTik, or want hotspot and home-fibre or PPPoE customers on one system, Iterative Billing is built for that stack.
Where Iterative Billing goes further
- •PPPoE and static IP on the same account, at $0.135 per active customer, capped at $45 a month up to 500 customers.
- •Your own merchant account for M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas, Airtel Money and HaloPesa through AzamPay or ClickPesa, reconciled automatically.
- •A dashboard in Kiswahili for Tanzanian accounts, with English and other languages per staff member.
- •A hotspot advertising engine: local businesses buy slots on your captive portal, a second income line for the site.
- •Network tools Sensible Hotspot's site does not advertise as of 31 October 2026: Huawei GPON OLT automation, TR-069 management of customer routers, SNMP monitoring, AI troubleshooting and an operator app for iOS and Android.
Which should you choose?
Sensible Hotspot describes its own customer as a café, hotel, event or multi-branch operator on Ruijie who wants setup done for them. Choose Iterative Billing if you run MikroTik, sell PPPoE as well as hotspot, operate many sites, or want collections in your own merchant account with costs that stop rising as revenue grows. Apply for Iterative Billing at billing.iterativebilling.com/register (approved networks get a 3-day trial), and the caps are on the pricing page. Frequently asked questions
- Is Sensible Hotspot cheaper than Iterative Billing?
- For a single small site, Sensible Hotspot's published shilling fees are the lower monthly sticker: a TZS 5,000 or 10,000 subscription and a TZS 13,000 main-site platform fee, after a one-time TZS 100,000 or 150,000 installation. Each extra site adds TZS 7,000 a month. Iterative Billing has no installation or per-site fee and charges 2 percent of collected hotspot revenue, capped at $27 a month up to $5,400 collected across all sites, with a $9 minimum, so it costs less once you run several sites.
- Does Iterative Billing work with Ruijie access points?
- Iterative Billing controls hotspot access on a MikroTik gateway through built-in RADIUS. Ruijie or any other access points can sit behind that MikroTik in bridge mode. It does not manage Ruijie Cloud itself, which is the integration Sensible Hotspot publishes.
- Which mobile money wallets do they collect in Tanzania?
- Sensible Hotspot lists Mixx by Yas, M-Pesa, HaloPesa and Airtel Money by USSD push through Sensible Digital Services. Iterative Billing collects the same four through AzamPay and ClickPesa on your own merchant account, with Pesapal and Flutterwave for cards.
